Winter in New Brunswick can bring unexpected power outages. NB Power wants
customers to be prepared for outages and requests your help in informing NB
Power of damaged wires or broken street lights. Keep our contact numbers close
by.
For your convenience we have prepared a one-page document that gives some tips
on preparing for a power outage, reporting power outages and what to do if the
power goes out. We encourage you to print it and post it somewhere in your

Out"
Preparing for a Power Outage
We all appreciate the reliability and convenience of electricity in our daily
lives. However, winter storms and other occurrences can cause power
interruptions. Here are some tips on preparing for a power outage.
- Keep a flashlight, lantern and safety lightsticks in a handy location.
-
Have a battery-operated radio and spare batteries ready as many radio stations
operate using emergency power. NB Power works with the radio stations during
power restoration work to keep you informed.
- Dress warmly and keep your doors and windows closed.
- Avoid opening your refrigerator or freezer; food should keep for several hours if the door is kept closed.
- Ensure that any back-up heating unit is properly vented and in good working order.
- While your power is out, turn down your electric heat, unplug portable heaters and turn off major appliances such as stoves, washers and dryers.
- Leave a lamp turned on so that you can tell when power has been restored.
- When your power has been restored, please use it sparingly during the first few hours to avoid a system overload and to prevent further outages.
