Partnerships

NB Power works closely with a variety of partners across New Brunswick to the benefit of our customers, current employees and potential employees.

Here are just a few of our key partnerships:

Efficiency NB

Efficiency NB offers sound advice and practical solutions to help New Brunswickers use energy more efficiently, make better energy choices, manage energy expenses and lessen the impact of energy use on the environment. We work closely with them to educate consumers about electricity conservation.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)

The IBEW, which represents over 80% of NB Power employees, is an important partner for NB Power. We are proud to work with them on important issues such as employee health and safety.

Falls Brook Centre

In February 2004, with funding from the Government of Canada's ecoACTION Program, a three-way partnership between the Falls Brook Centre ( FBC ), NB Power and UNB 's Sustainable Power Research Group established New Brunswick's first net-metered site in the rural community of Knowlesville (near Hartland). This collaborative venture was designed to be an educational project not just for the many visitors who flock to see the demonstration site each year, but also for all three partners involved in the project's construction. It took two years but everyone's goals were achieved by attaching a small 520W solar photovoltaic module array (solar panels) and a 3kW wind turbine to the electrical grid. The completion of this project gave NB Power enough experience to develop and implement a net-metering procedure.

Centre for Nuclear Energy Research (CNER)

NB Power has partnered with the Centre for Nuclear Energy Research (CNER), a non-profit research and corrosion monitoring company located at the University of New Brunswick ( UNB ) Fredericton campus, to help meet NB Power's requirement for nuclear energy workers.

Through this initiative, NB Power is taking a proactive approach to ensure the resources and skills are in place to support the needs of customers for years to come. It will also broaden learning opportunities for students, ensuring that they are well-equipped with the necessary skills to enter the workforce.

The partnership will focus on three key areas: attracting and retaining workers to the nuclear industry and filling employment needs, preparing new nuclear energy workers while enhancing the skills of current employees and the advancement of nuclear energy research.
