In order to do our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19, we have moved our operations to essential services only. This includes emergencies, outage restoration, moving requests and essential water heater services. NB Power’s Smart Habits campaign captures two national ENERGY STAR® awards

Fredericton, N.B. – NB Power’s Smart Habits campaign is a double winner in Natural Resources Canada’s awards honouring organizations that demonstrate excellence in offering Canadian consumers the most energy-efficient products and technology available on the market.

NB Power was named a winner in promotional campaign of the year and campaign of the year - social media categories, two of 14 ENERGY STAR® Market Transformation Awards for advancing energy efficiency in Canada.

The awards are presented to manufacturers, retailers, utility providers, advocates, and home builders that have shown leadership in manufacturing and promoting energy-efficient products.

“We’re proud to be recognized for our work in promoting the ENERGY STAR program. Our smart habits rebates help consumers purchase products that are more energy efficient and both the promotional campaign and social media strategy have helped the program exceed its targets. The campaign slogan reflects our message to customers, ‘why pay for electricity you don’t need’,” said NB Power President and CEO, Gaëtan Thomas.

NB Power was chosen for both its marketing campaign and social media efforts that promoted the smart habits rebate program which offered in-store and mail-in rebates for energy efficient, ENERGY STAR certified products.

The campaigns’ main objectives were to establish a need to change electricity consumption behaviour; to show New Brunswickers how simple little switches we can make in our day to day energy use can help lower electricity bills; and to encourage New Brunswickers to seek out energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR products and other services.

"Congratulations to NB Power on their ENERGY STAR Canada awards. I thank them for their extraordinary leadership and sustained commitment to the ENERGY STAR Initiative, which helps Canadians make responsible, energy-efficient choices,” said the Honourable Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources.

The rebate program has had tremendous success, helping New Brunswickers save over $3,656,000 each year in electricity and helping to lower annual greenhouse gas emissions by 10,528 tonnes.

These awards are NB Power’s first ENERGY STAR awards.
