In order to do our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19, we have moved our operations to essential services only. This includes emergencies, outage restoration, moving requests and essential water heater services. NB Power receives national ENERGY STAR® Canada Award for Utility of the Year—Provincial

Fredericton, N.B. – NB Power has been awarded the ENERGY STAR® Canada Award for Utility of the Year—Provincial from Natural Resources Canada. NB Power received this award for making energy efficiency programs and products affordable and available.

The ENERGY STAR Canada Awards honour organizations that demonstrate excellence in promoting the most energy-efficient products and new homes available on the market. NB Power’s efforts in promoting the efficient use of energy in customers’ homes and businesses in the province was recognized at a ceremony held on May 28 in Ottawa.

“NB Power is extremely proud to receive the ENERGY STAR Canada Award in recognition of our efforts to promote the efficient use of energy in our customers’ homes and businesses,” said NB Power President and CEO, Gaëtan Thomas. “New Brunswickers are embracing energy efficiency, which is allowing them to save money by not using electricity they don’t need while at the same time reducing our provincial carbon footprint.”

NB Power received this award for the many initiatives it has put in place to help customers save with energy efficiency throughout the past year, including:

  • A successful ENERGY STAR Day promotion and contest on social media that reached 310,000 customers;
  • The promotion of the ENERGY STAR brand through regular energy savings tips on the Home Energy Report, which is sent to 125,000 households in New Brunswick;
  • The successful promotion of product rebates on a number of energy efficient products, including ENERGY STAR certified LED lighting products, and;
  • Ten in-store events to promote ENERGY STAR certified product rebates and lighting products.

“Congratulations to NB Power for supporting and promoting ENERGY STAR products. Improving energy efficiency contributes first-hand to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and NB Power’s efforts are making it easier for Canadians to save energy and money while protecting the planet, said Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jim Carr. We thank you for your ongoing commitment to improving the availability of energy efficient products in Canada.”

The ENERGY STAR Canada Awards are presented to utilities, organizations, advocates, manufacturers, retailers, and home builders that have shown leadership in promoting and manufacturing energy-efficient products and for advancing energy efficiency in Canada.

“This award is great recognition for the people working hard at our utility to ramp up efficiency programs in New Brunswick, said the Executive Director of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Lois Corbett. We look forward to seeing energy costs come down for ratepayers as NB Power delivers even more comprehensive programming over the coming months.”

This is NB Power’s third ENERGY STAR Canada Award. In 2016, the utility received awards for the Promotional Campaign of the Year and Social Media Campaign of the Year.
