NB Power is a progressive, sustainable and customer-focused utility whose 2,300 employees are dedicated to providing quality service and safe, reliable electricity at low and stable rates. Our electricity is generated at 13 facilities throughout New Brunswick and delivered via power lines, substations and terminals to more than 350,000 New Brunswick homes, businesses, hospitals, schools etc. We also export electricity to New England, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Today, our generation mix is about 65% non-emitting with a goal to get to 75% by 2020.

NB Power Transmission and System Operations is seeking two (2) Relay Technicians for its Maintenance Department. The successful candidates will be temporarily headquartered, one in Moncton and one in Bathurst, for a training period which could take up to four (4) years. Following the training period, they will be reassigned to a permanent headquarters at one of NB Power's locations within the province.

The Relay Technician is accountable for the pre-commissioning, commissioning, modification, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the NB Power system relaying protection network, used in the generation, transmission and control of electrical power within the province of New Brunswick and to interconnecting utilities.

This position requires candidates to meet the following education, work experience and qualifications:

  • Diploma in Electrical / Electronics Engineering Technology in one of the following options:
  • Commercial and Industrial Systems Design
  • Alternate Energy Systems
  • Industrial
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License and acceptable driving record
  • Experience in a related field would be considered an asset

The successful candidates will have strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, will be computer literate and have the ability to work in a team environment or independently.

Due to security requirements of our North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, the successful candidates will be required to arrange a Criminal Record Name Check through the RCMP and provide the results to NB Power.

NB Power Transmission and System Operations is seeking a Telecommunications Technician I in its Maintenance Department in Marysville. The Telecommunications Technician is accountable for the pre-commissioning, commissioning, modification, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the NB Power Telecommunications network across the province. This equipment provides protection, control and remote visibility of transmission lines, substations, terminals and generating stations for controlling authorities. It also provides voice and data communications for personnel at remote locations using a mixture of UHF and microwave radio.

 

This position requires candidates to meet the following education, work experience and qualifications:

  • Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering Technology in one of the following options:
  • Commercial and Industrial Systems Design
  • Alternate Energy Systems
  • Communications Systems
  • Industrial
  • Telecommunications
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License and acceptable driving record
  • Experience in a related field would be considered an asset

NB Power Transmission and System Operations is seeking to fill four (4) Electrical Mechanic Apprentice positions in its Maintenance Department. The successful candidates will complete a four-year on-the-job apprenticeship to acquire certification as an Electrical Mechanic. The Certified Electrical Mechanic is responsible for the installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, modification, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of equipment and facilities associated with the power transmission and distribution systems.

This position requires candidates to meet the following education, work experience and qualifications:

  • Diploma in Electrical / Electronics Engineering Technology in one of the following options:
  • Commercial and Industrial Systems Design
  • Alternate Energy Systems
  • Industrial
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License and acceptable driving record
  • Experience with electrical and/or mechanical maintenance activities or power apparatus will be considered an asset

The successful candidates will have demonstrated mechanical aptitude; will be computer literate and have the flexibility to travel throughout the province, working away from home for extended periods of time.
