Looking to Use Headpond Property?
A headpond is the body of water located behind a hydroelectric dam, which was created and is used for the generation of electricity. As part of the original development of our hydro generating stations, NB Power acquired the land surrounding the headponds of the Mactaquac, Beechwood and Grand Falls Generating Stations. This strip of land acts as a buffer zone between the headpond and private property.
Though this land is owned by NB Power, we offer adjacent property owners the opportunity to use this land by obtaining a Personal Use License from NB Power. Landowners may wish to use this land for recreational purposes.
In order to obtain a Personal Use License, you must agree to the following:
- The License is for personal use only. The use of the land for gain or profit is prohibited under this License.
- The License is not assignable or transferable. Each new adjacent property owner must make application for a new License.
- No permanent buildings, structures or services are permitted on the licensed property. Only one floating dock may be allowed per License.
- Written consent from NB Power is required prior to undertaking any work, alterations or improvements on the licensed property. Any work conducted within 30 metres of a watercourse requires a Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Permit, issued by the New Brunswick Department of Environment.
If you have any questions regarding the above information or would like to apply for a Personal Use License, please contact NB Power’s Real Estate Department at (506) 458-6626.
