Turbine Floor

Inside the power house is the 480-megawatt steam turbine and generator set. This is where the steam generated in the boiler is used to run the turbine and generate electricity. Heat produced from burning coal in a combustion chamber is transferred to water, which is circulating through a system of tubes surrounding the chamber. The water is converted to steam and then to superheated steam. The plant uses steam to drive the pump rather than electricity because of the increase in efficiency.
