Generation

NB Power Generation supplies wholesale energy products in a competitive environment. It wholly-owns:

  • NB Power Coleson Cove Corporation, which owns and operates the Coleson Cove Generating Station, and
  • Mine Reclamation Inc., formerly known as NB Coal. The company name was changed in January 2010 to handle the remaining assets of NB Coal.

Electricity is generated at 13 hydro, coal, oil, and diesel-powered stations, with an installed net capacity of 3,142 MW comprised of 1,728 MW of thermal, 889 of MW hydro and 525 MW of combustion turbine capacity.

Because we have limited natural resources to generate electricity in the province, we've developed one of the most diverse generating systems in North America.

The 457 MW baseload unit at Belledune was recently recognized by an industry benchmarking group as one of the most economic coal-fired generators in North America.

Using to our advantage our geographic location and regional weather diversity, the generating system was designed to meet winter peaks and benefit from non-winter sales to neighbouring jurisdictions.
