Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station returns to operation

Point Lepreau, N.B. – The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS) returned to operation on September 26, 2026, following the successful repair of an instrumentation line connected to the heat transport system.

The issue was identified when system monitors detected elevated tritium levels within the reactor building. Tritium is produced in the heavy water as it circulates within the reactor. The tritium was contained within the reactor building as designed, and there was no risk to staff, the public or the environment. The outage was required to safely complete the necessary maintenance, which could only be performed while the Station was offline. Following the repair, teams completed the required testing and operational reviews before reconnecting the Station to the grid.
