Standardized Billing
As part of NB Power’s commitment to improve the customer experience—and following up on our commitment made after the Residential Billing and Metering Assessment—we are pleased to provide a consistent billing cycle for customers with communicating smart meters. If you have a communicating smart meter on your home or business, your account will automatically move to a standardized billing schedule.
How it works
- Winter months (October to April), billing periods will be 30 days
- Summer months (May to September), billing periods will be 31 days
- Your bill will continue to reflect only the electricity you use
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is NB Power introducing standardized billing?
Customers have told us that they want more consistent billing periods. Standardized billing is enabled by smart meter technology. With a consistent number of days on each bill, it makes it easier to compare previous bills –and your usage over time.
Also, limiting winter billing periods to 30 days helps ensure customers aren’t faced with longer billing periods during the coldest months, when energy use for heating is at its highest.
Will my billing date change?
After the initial bill, most customers will see little or no change.
Does standardized billing change how much I pay?
Standardized billing does not affect electricity rates. Your bill will continue to reflect your actual energy use.
What if the smart meter on my home or business isn’t communicating?
You will remain on your current billing schedule. If and when the meter begins communicating, your account will automatically move to standardized billing.
I opted out of receiving a smart meter. Can I get on the standardized billing cycle?
Standardized billing requires that you have a communicating smart meter. Opt-out customers remain on the legacy billing process. To opt in call 1 800 663-6272.
