Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station returns to operation

Point Lepreau, N.B. – The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS) reconnected to the New Brunswick electricity grid on September 8, 2026, following the successful completion of gasket repairs to the turbine system.

The outage was required to safely complete the necessary maintenance, which could only be performed while the Station was offline. Following the repair, teams completed the required testing and operational reviews before reconnecting the Station to the grid.

Outages of this nature are an important investment in the long-term reliability and performance of PLNGS. Addressing this issue proactively helps reduce the risk of unplanned interruption during the winter months and ensures the Station is ready to meet the energy needs of New Brunswickers when customers need it most. 

Costs associated with the outage will be included in NB Power’s annual financial statements, which are publicly available.

The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS), with a net capacity of 660 megawatts, provides safe, reliable, cost-effective, clean electricity for customers. Operating since 1983, the Station is a cornerstone of the province's electricity system and supports New Brunswick's energy security and economy. In 2025, PLNGS supplied approximately one-third of the electricity used in the province.
