Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station temporarily offline

Point Lepreau, N.B. – The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS) was safely taken offline on September 11, 2026, to repair a small instrumentation line inside the reactor building. There is no risk to the public, employees, or the environment.

The location of the line cannot be accessed safely while the station is operating and must be taken offline to complete the repair. Specialized teams are currently carrying out detailed assessments as well as preparations to progress this work and determine a timeline for repairs. NB Power is coordinating across its broader generation fleet to continue delivering reliable electricity service to customers.

The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS), with a net capacity of 660 megawatts, provides safe, reliable, cost-effective, clean electricity for customers. Operating since 1983, the Station is a cornerstone of the province's electricity system and supports New Brunswick's energy security and economy. In 2025, PLNGS supplied approximately one-third of the electricity used in the province.
