Your NB Power water heater is factory set to 60°C (140°F) to prevent bacteria growth. If you find your water temperature too hot, you can test it by letting the hot water run for 5 minutes. No. NB Power’s water heaters must be installed and used only for the purpose of supplying your business with hot water. Connecting to a furnace coil, hydronic heating or other means of heating can be dangerous and is not allowed. Your water heater delivery includes the water heater tank and a safety valve (called a temperature and pressure relief valve). Other parts needed for installation, such as a drain pan, vacuum breaker, and pipe fittings, will be supplied by your installer.

This safety valve is a pressure / temperature relief valve. This valve opens when the pressure in your plumbing system exceeds 150 lbs/sq in (1034 kPa) or if the temperature exceeds 99°C (210°F). If this valve appears to be leaking, you should contact us and we will send a repair specialist to check your water heater right away.

For safety and health reasons, any water heater that is exposed to water in a flooded location must be replaced. Before we can replace your rental due to flooding, your power must be reconnected, and the flooded area must be dry and clear of debris. If you have been impacted by flood water, please call us at 1 800 663-6272 once power has been restored and water has receded.

If you are in a flood zone area, we suggest you contact a licensed plumber to have the water heater disconnected, drained, and relocated to a better-suited location in your business from flood water risk.

If at any time you identify that your water heater is leaking:

• Turn off the water supply to the tank using the cold-water line shut-off valve
• Safely turn off the power supply at your electrical panel. *Remember electricity and water don’t mix, do not attempt to turn off the power supply if the floor is wet

When you rent a water heater from NB Power, we take care of all required repair and removal of the tank itself. Our team of technicians is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

NB Power assumes no risk and shall not be liable for any damage to property, furnishings, belongings or loss of revenue or personal injury resulting from the presence of its equipment on the customer’s premises or from an Act of God or from accidents, negligence or other actions of civic or similar agencies or any person(s) beyond the control of NB Power.

To greatly reduce the risk of water damages, the water heater installation location should be close to a free-flowing floor drain or other acceptable means of directing the water to a safe location of disposal. If there is a floor drain near the water heater, and a pan can be installed, NB Power will provide a drain pan. NB Power will also install piping from the pan to the drain to a maximum of 4 feet / 1.2 metres.

Please Note: NB Power will not place a drainpipe in areas that create obstacles for the customer. If a floor drain is present, but it is too far away to be plumbed, or it causes a safety concern, NB Power will not connect, but the customer may wish to do so themselves.

The efficiency of electric water heaters in Canada is measured by standby loss. The term standby loss refers to heat loss from a water heating system that's not being used. NB Power’s water heaters exceed energy efficiency standards.

If you’d like to know if your water heater meets energy efficiency requirements, Natural Resources Canada has a dedicated website with all the makes and models of electric water heaters that meet energy efficiency requirements. To find the efficiency rating that applies to the water heater in your business, look to the serial plate of the water heater for the manufacturer’s model number.

NB Power does not recommend the installation of insulation blankets. To improve your energy efficiency, we recommend adding pipe wrap insulation to both the hot and cold water lines connected to the water heater.

Should you choose to install an insulation blanket, please keep the following in mind:

• Do not cover the operation or warning labels
• Do not cover the element and thermostat access panels
• Do not cover the pressure and temperature relief valve found at the top of the water heater
• Installed insulation must be removed before any services can be performed to your NB Power water heater
• Blankets may affect the warranty of the tank
• Blankets may shorten the life of the water heater and run the risk of causing damage to your home.
