Quick Start Guide

Introducing ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®: 
The most used energy measurement and tracking tool for commercial buildings.

By connecting directly to NB Power's Web Services, Portfolio Manager® will give you energy and greenhouse gas emissions performance metrics and valuable trend data so that you can have confidence in your energy management.

To get started, follow these steps:

PART A: SET UP PROPERTIES AND METERS IN PORTFOLIO MANAGER®

Action (in Portfolio Manager®)

1. Set-up an ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® Account

Tip:
• This should be a person responsible for energy management and benchmarking in your organization.
• Do not enter any personal information.

2. Create your properties

Tip:
• You will need to enter basic property data (building usage, floor area, etc.).
• A complete list of data required can be found in the Data Collection Worksheet.

3. Create an electric meter for each property

Tip:
• Each electric meter will represent one NB Power account.
• Give each meter a descriptive name that includes NB Power Account number.

 

PART B: CONNECT TO NB POWER FOR AUTOMATED UPLOAD

Action (in Portfolio Manager®)

1. Create connection to Energie NB Power Web Services
a) Search for Energie NB Power Web Services under "Contact"
b) Accept Terms and Conditions

Tips:
• Check for response 24 hours (One business day) later.
• Connection with Energie NB Power Web Services must be accepted before starting Step 2.
• Be sure to search for Energie NB Power Web Services and not Énergie NB Power Web Services. Portfolio Manager® cannot store characters with accents.

2.  Select properties and meter(s) for automated upload
a) Select "Share Properties with Others
b) Select “Personalized Sharing and Exchange Data
c) Give full access to each meter
d) Enter validation information (account number, meter number, invoice number and/or collective billing account number)

Tips:
• If you are on standard billing, enter your account and meter number.
• If you are on collective billing, in addition to entering the account number, enter either the meter number or the collective billing account number.

3.  Check for response and data the next business day (24 hours)
a) If there are overlaps, delete duplicate records
b) If meter readings are longer than 65 days, manually split them

Tips:
• If the request was accepted, up to 36 months of history will be uploaded within 24 hours (one business day).
• Electricity consumption updates will be done based on your regular billing cycle, typically every 28 to 33 days.
